#571 A real choice for RideauRockcliffe

My Data-driven leadership versus "Leadership that listens" for Rideau-Rockcliffe.

Choose Real oversight. Transparent metrics. Resident-first solutions.

Voters have a genuine choice, not an automatic return of the status quo. The differences are documented, with sources, on a single summary page at Differences

Key areas of difference include:

• Infrastructure and transportation: Support for the Eastern Bridge (with specific conditions to protect local neighbourhoods, including truck routing, noise/air standards, grade-separated connections, and transit/active-transportation elements on opening day), versus the incumbent’s opposition; the long-delayed Hemlock Road connection at Wateridge Village; and traffic-calming measures such as a traffic circle or equivalent at St-Laurent/Hemlock (and related Beechwood corridor concerns).

• Parks and recreation: The planned loss of the Bathgate Park basketball court (and associated naturalization) relative to amenities elsewhere in the ward, such as Riverain Park; programming and access questions at Jetform Park; and the future of 815 St-Laurent for soccer and other community use.
• Governance and access: Reducing Ottawa City Council from 24 wards to 12 to improve decision-making and reduce costs, and expanding public Wi-Fi hotspots in parks and community spaces. I will also make the Wateridge Hemlock link a priority.

The new Eastern Bridge in particular is a defining file for the ward and the region; the candidates’ approaches to leverage, conditions, and engagement differ sharply.

As a voter
 (1) note where the Ward 13 candidates differ on the issues;
(2) ask why community associations failed to organize a debate
(3) Just ask me - I am available at any time to answer questions.

A two-person race with documented policy differences is the minimum condition for residents to exercise a real choice. I hope CBC Ottawa will help provide that information in the remaining days before October 26.

In RideauRockcliffe 60% who can, simply will not vote, and of the 40% who do, barely 10% will have bothered to watch the ward debate between myself and the King.

Here is the link. A 30 minute ask for your civic responsibility!

The New Edinburgh News of a new east end bridge at the aviation parkway must come as a shock to its readers. Make no mistake, the project which has been planned for the past 60 years is coming.
Ottawa has grown and the regular passing of 18 wheelers through Ottawa's core has worn thin, the route requiring four angular turns has never been safe.

The future will see trucks crossing over Kettle Island, down the aviation parkway to highway 417.

Some may adopt the NOT IN MY BACKYARD stance. Others may see the project as necessary for the city. Both are understandable... but the bridge is coming.

There is a need to engage planners now to ensure that the impact on Manor Park and Waterbridge, Cardinal Glen, and Carson Grove is optimized especially as it applies to traffic flow at Montreal and Ogilvie Roads where there are controlled crossings.

The residences along the aviation parkway will want pedestrian underpasses, and effective sound barriers. Thery have a right to demand sound deadening vegetation as well.

At the same time there are overpasses required at the controlled inter sections so that access to the Montfort hospital is not compromised. Do not let the project proponents off the hook for these modifications.

Locals also want to ensure that the design of the bridge ramps do not interfere with local traffic on the George Etienne parkway.

Now is not the time to sit at the table with your arms crossed. We need to engage with project planners now.
