When conservative premier, leader of the Big Blue Machine was asked, he commented, " and we all know what business hospitals are in, they run parking lots". It got a good laugh because its true.
As a future councillor I see that the issues that really face the city will not come up during the election. Why?
They are incumbents - they do not want to talk about it. But my view is that I am not pandering for votes, I want to get stuff done.
This is why the new Ottawa Hospital is important. It is at least six years behind and in terms of cost to the city, about a billion dollars over budget...but hey, we have a parking garage! The cost of this hospial is shared between the province, the federal government and the project proponent (the city).
Like the cost over runs in the new main branch of our library, the cost of the LRT we are facing big tax increases at a time when disposable income is at a premium.
Well, we should be talking about that now...but, like I said, nobody wants to deal with it.
Name your price! When the shit hits the fan we won't be talking about diversity, equity and inclusion.
